These days environmental impact is an important consideration in business
interactions. At MARS, environmental stewardship is not just a buzz word, it
is how we create solutions every day.
By its nature, MARS is inherently Green. Not just because of its corporate
colors, although that is a convenient coincidence, but because of what we
do.
The core function of the MARS business is to restore and recondition
vehicles that have cosmetic damage. This "recondition instead of replace"
philosophy, keeps replaced bumpers, windshields and plastic parts, out of
landfills and on the vehicle as original equipment, because they get
restored instead of replaced.
For example, in the state of Oregon each year 16,000 tons of windshield
glass is buried in the ground as waste. This is obviously not very
eco-friendly. MARS is doing its share to combat these unsustainable
habits by repairing windshield damage, instead of replacing. Every day our
network of over 400 Franchisees are repairing windshields all across the
country, saving landfills and helping the environment.
This type of "recondition instead of replace" business model is central to
almost all 33 services that MARS provides. Here is a listing of some of the
MARS services that provide opportunities for environmental conservation
through reconditioning:
- Bumper damage, even torn bumpers can be plastic welded together and
painted by a MARS Franchisee. These repairs are to body shop acceptable
standards and are widely endorsed by most Automotive Dealers around the
globe. To replace a bumper costs hundreds of dollars and puts 12-15lbs of
waste plastic in a landfill. Our repair methods use 2.5 5.0 grams of plastic welding consumables and after 10oz of replacement paint, the bumper is good as new and ready for many more years of service.
- Many vehicles come standard with leather seating and paneling. After a
few years of service that leather can become faded, worn and even torn.
Certified MARS repair techniques can repair the tear and dye the leather
using OEM approved colorants that are waterborne and EPA compliant. This
brings the functionality of the seat back, restoring the usability of it and adding many more years of enjoyable service to the car. It also saves the old leather from ending up in the dumpster.
- It is often thought that a scratch in paint can only be repaired by
repainting that panel, or more, on a vehicle. Sometimes that is true. However
most of the time even what appears to be a severe scratch can be made to
disappear with the right kind of MARS certified paint refinishing and polishing. This saves VOC exposure to the atmosphere and contributes to better air quality in our neighborhoods.
- In the heat of Summer, headlight lenses often get faded and begin to look "frosty". Often this is simply a degradation of the surface of the plastic/Lexan headlight. MARS technicians are trained to refinish those headlights so that they do not have to be removed and discarded as waste.
There are 29 other cost saving, environment saving systems that MARS trains
on at our State Certified Career School.
MARS systems entreat the LOHAS approach to life and deliver sustainable
environmental conservation at every service.
At MARS our environmental concern goes beyond simply having a green logo, it
is what we do. |
